The best time to visit Jaisalmer for a desert safari is between October and March. During these months the weather stays pleasant, temperatures sit comfortably between 10°C and 25°C, and the desert is at its most beautiful. Camel rides, jeep safaris and overnight camping all feel magical in this season. If you can plan your visit around February, the Jaisalmer Desert Festival makes the experience even more special with folk performances, camel races and the entire city coming alive. What is the difference between camel safari and jeep safari in Jaisalmer?
The two experiences are completely different and honestly both are worth doing. Camel safari is slow, quiet and deeply authentic. You ride through the golden dunes the way travellers and traders have been doing for centuries and there is something genuinely peaceful about it. Jeep safari on the other hand is fast, thrilling and covers a lot more ground with proper 4x4 dune bashing that gets your heart going. Most of our guests end up choosing our combo package where they do the jeep safari in the evening at sunset and then wake up early for a camel ride at sunrise. That combination gives you the full Jaisalmer desert experience in one trip.
What is included in an overnight luxury desert camp in Jaisalmer?
Quite a lot actually. We pick you up from your hotel in Jaisalmer and drive you to the camp site. From there you get a camel ride through the dunes, followed by a jeep safari as the sun goes down. Your accommodation is a 5-star Swiss tent with an attached private bathroom, comfortable bedding and all the basics you would expect from a quality hotel room. Dinner is a full authentic Rajasthani spread cooked fresh at camp. In the evening there is live folk music and kalbeliya dance around the bonfire. The night sky out in the Thar is something else entirely and we set up a proper stargazing area away from any light. Breakfast is served at camp the next morning before we drive you back to Jaisalmer.
